Panthera onca augusta, Jaguar Track
Pleistocene Epoch (1.7 million to 11,000 years ago)

This specimen is the track of an ancient jaguar. It was found in a cave in Missouri. This track was preserved because the mud the jaguar walked in was later partially filled in by travertine.

Jaguars such as the one that left this track roamed much of North America. They were extirpated from most of the United States about 11,000 years age. The site where the track above was found, contains a large number of this type of track.
