There is a double image of remembrance in this photograph. A president has died. The posters and ticket office are a remembrance of a time when people attended the movies several times a week for fifteen cents a ticket to see black and white films.

What other famous photographs have you seen that are a remembrance of a person, event, or way of life that has passed?
Do you have personal photographs that help you remember past times?

When President Franklin D. Roosevelt died, businesses closed as a sign of respect. Lerner's title for the photo reflects a time in United States history when World War II was ending and the Depression was over. Roosevelt, who was in office during this historic time, was dead. One era was ending and a new one was beginning.
