Rural Scene

Irean Gordon (dates unavailable)
Rural Scene, 1940
oil on canvas,  25 by 35 inches
Illinois State Museum Collection

How did Gordon arrange the composition to make the farm look small and crowded?

What is the emotional effect of the dark, empty windows?

Irean Gordon interpreted the small family farm in this painting. Compare it with the Frances Badger interpretation. Although both show similar details like haystacks and farm buildings, each has a very different mood.

Irean Gordon exhibited in the Chicago Annual exhibitions of 1941, 1942, and 1948.
