Brownbag Lectures: Population Genetics of Hine's Emerald Dragonfly in Missouri

  • Location: ISM Research & Collections Center, Springfield
  • Date: Wednesday, January 07, 2009, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Presented by Meredith J. Mahoney, Assistant Curator of Zoology, Illinois State Museum

Hine's Emerald Dragonfly (Somatochlora hineana) is the only Federally Endangered species of Dragonfly in the United States. In Missouri, these dragonflies are found in isolated fen habitats in the Ozark region. I will talk about the results of my recent genetic studies on these populations examining both variation within and connections among populations. I will also talk about the role this new genetic data has in conservation of the species.
