Paul Mickey Science Series: The Collier Lodge Site: A Nine-Thousand Year Record of Life Along the Kankakee

  • Location: ISM Research & Collections Center, Springfield
  • Date: Wednesday, October 08, 2008, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Presented by: Dr. Mark R. Schurr, Associate Professor and Chair of Anthropology, University of Notre Dame

Located on the northern edge of the former Kankakee Marsh in Porter County, Indiana, the Collier Lodge site contains evidence of human activities from the Early Archaic period through the recent past. The multiple component site has been the subject of field work by the University of Notre Dame and the Kankakee Valley Historical Society over the past six summers. Some of the more significant finds include six Upper Mississippian features (dating ca. A.D. 1400) and a very large historic feature.
