The Biology and History of the Lincoln Vault Oak
Presented by Guy Sternberg, Director, Starhill Forest Arboretum of Illinois College
The last documented living participant in the President's Springfield funeral was the tree known as the Lincoln Vault Oak that shaded the funeral choir. Guy Sternberg, certified arborist and internationally known tree authority, will present the history and biology of this white oak tree at the Illinois State Museum Research and Collections Center, using historic records and images as well as actual wood specimens which were analyzed to yield information about events that took place at the site.
This event is part of the 2015 Prairie Humanities Series supported by the Illinois State Museum and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation.
