Paul Mickey Science Series: Navigating the Illinois River: Archaeology, History, and Natural History

The Upper Illinois River Valley is the location of numerous geological, archaeological, and historical places of interest. Dr. Wiant will provide an overview including attention to a massive Ice Age flood, the remains of a 700-year-old village on the bank of the Des Plaines River, later Native American occupations at Starved Rock and Plum Island, the improvement in navigation brought about by the construction of canals, examples of the area's early architecture, and some colorful events in local history.
