Brownbag Lectures: Ancient DNA: Pitfalls and Potential

Presented by Dr. Meredith J. Mahoney, Assistant Curator of Zoology, Illinois State Museum Dr. Mahoney will present an introduction to "ancient DNA" and how it relates to biological and archaeological collections and research. She will talk about the molecular biology techniques that allow ancient DNA sequencing, some of the problems (and solutions) associated with this type of research, and discuss examples of studies that have successfully utilized ancient DNA.

Weekly lectures held at the Museum's Research and Collections Center. Lectures are usually held during lunchtime on Wednesday. The RCC is located at 1011 E. Ash Street in Springfield. Access to the building is from 10 ½ Street (between Ash and Laurel Streets), where there is ample visitor parking in the west parking lot. For more information, please call 217-785-0037.
