Press Room --
SPRINGFIELD- On Saturday, April 9, visitors will learn how to be “Earth Smart” at the monthly Super Saturday at the Illinois State Museum event from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event combines the celebration of Money Smart Week® and Earth Day. Money Smart Week® is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations across the state and Midwest including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media. During the “Earth Smart” program, children and their families will learn how to save both natural and financial resources by using green practices. Children will use recycled materials to create a coin bank and receive ideas on how to make extra spending money by thinking “earth-smart” such as recycling aluminum cans and selling no-longer used toys as part of a family garage sale. Children will have the opportunity to create other crafts from recycled materials as well as play environmental-themed games. All Super Saturdays at the Illinois State Museum are designed especially for children 4-8 years old and are free and open to the public. Most activities can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes, although participants may stay as long as they wish. Parents are invited to participate with their children. The Super Saturday series is sponsored by Bank of Springfield. For more information contact Anna Studstill at astudstill@museum.state.il.us or 217-782-6044. TTY: 217-782-9175
