SPRINGFIELD- The Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum at the Illinois State Museum is turning one year old. The Museum is celebrating with the Happy Birthday Play Museum! Super Saturday on March 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children and their families will enjoy party games and crafts such as pin the tail on the mastodont and designing a party hat, and of course, the Play Museum will be open for exploration. Live entertainment will also be featured. Comedic Juggler Troy Roark will kick off the party at 11:00 a.m. and Magician Eldon Roark will perform at 1:00 p.m. The Mary Ann MacLean Play Museum opened in March of 2011 as a brand new children’s area where families can learn together about what it is like to work in a museum. Activities include loading a jeep for an expedition, digging for fossils in a dig pit, looking at specimens under a microscope, arranging an art exhibition and more. The Museum’s extensive collections and research activities provide the foundation for exhibitions and public programs that tell the story of the land, life, people, and art of Illinois. The Illinois State Museum is located at 502 S. Spring Street (the corner of Spring and Edwards Streets) in Springfield, and is open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby, and the building is ADA accessible.
