Lecture on Aztec Archaeology at Dickson Mounds

Dr. Jonathan Reyman, Curator of Anthropology, Illinois State Museum will present an illustrated lecture titled "The Aztec: Feeding the Gods in the Empire of Culhua" at the monthly meeting of the Illinois Valley Archaeological Society, on April 7, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the Dickson Mounds auditorium. The presentation is open to the public and is free of charge.

This presentation will examine the Aztec world from the beginning at Aztlan through the Spanish Conquest using archaeological materials, written records, and oral history. The focus is on Aztec religion, economy, and daily life and the practice of human sacrifice within the context of ensuring the day-to-day survival of the people and the Empire of Culhua.

Dr. Reyman, an archaeologist/anthropologist, is a nationally recognized authority on Native American cultures, particularly the Pueblo communities in the American Southwest.
