WWII German Pow Traveling Bus Exhibit

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Sunday, March 22, 2009, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

On Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Dickson Mounds Museum will feature a traveling exhibit that tells the story of German POWs held in the Midwest during WWII.

During WWII the Midwest was home to approximately 250 prisoner of war camps. These prisoners embody ageless and timely themes of war and peace, justice during times of war, human rights, international reconciliation and potential lessons for avoiding future conflicts.

Their story is told through narrative panels, audio, artifacts and more in a 40-foot school bus converted into a mobile museum. This exhibit was developed by TRACES Center for History and Culture which is a Midwest/WWII history museum in St. Paul Minnesota. There is no charge to view this one-day only exhibit.

Also running throughout the day will be video taped remembrances of WWII by local veterans. From 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. complementary coffee and cookies will be available in the museum lobby. For more information call the museum at 309-547-3721.
