The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Film Showing

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Film Showing

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Thursday, October 09, 2008, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Dickson Mounds Museum and the Fulton County Arts Council are pleased to be partnering with the Spoon River College Foundation and Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library on their second National Endowment for the Arts The Big Read grant - one of only 122 communities across the nation. The theme of The Big Read project this year is Mark Twain's classic "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

As part of the events this year, a film showing of the 1938 version of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" will be shown in the Dickson Mounds Museum auditorium. This is a splendid family film, one of Producer David O. Selznick's very best. Presented in Technicolor, it is like looking through the pages of an illustrated copy of the classic novel. All of the favorite episodes are included and the performers are perfect in their roles, making this film a splendid transition from book to screen. A discussion session will take place following the film presentation. Popcorn and soda will be served.
