Annual Dulcimer Gathering Concert

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Sunday, September 07, 2008, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown, IL will host "The Sixth Annual Dulcimer Gathering at the Mounds" a free public concert of hammered and mountain dulcimer music on Sunday, September 7, 2008, from Noon to 4:00 p.m. The concert will feature performances by leading dulcimer musicians from Central Illinois. Performers will include:

Mike Anderson: a nationally known mountain dulcimer player, storyteller and workshop presenter. In addition to mountain dulcimer, Mike plays guitar, banjo, jaw harp, nose flute, and bones.

Cambric Garden, Kathy Lane and Marilyn Walters: musicians and vocalists who have performed widely in Central Illinois. Their repertoire includes Traditional, Celtic, and Native American music.

Dale C. Evans and Friends: a group of musicians from the Bloomington/Normal area who play old time traditional square dance music on hammered dulcimer, guitar, and fiddle.

Alison Coyer: features Traditional music on her hammered dulcimer.

Just 4 Fun: a group of women from the Quad Cities specializing in old time string band music. They have performed in Illinois for more than ten years at a variety of venues.

Steve Endsley: mountain dulcimer musician and luthier, workshop host, and concert emcee. Steve is the Lead Coordinator of the Dulcimer Gathering at the Mounds.

Anderson and Endsley have coordinated an on-going dulcimer workshop program held at Dickson Mounds Museum for fourteen years, as well as the previous Dulcimer Gatherings at the Mounds, which began in 2003. These activities are part of an ongoing partnership between Dickson Mounds Museum and a variety of organizations producing cultural events in rural west-central Illinois.

The concert will take place on the museum's outdoor stage. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for outdoor seating. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and musicians will offer tapes and CDs for sale.

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the Two Rivers Arts Council, a regional arts organization.
