Museum to Host Archaeological Survey - Annual Meeting
- Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
- Date: Saturday, September 10, 2011, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
The Annual Meeting of the Illinois Archaeological Survey will be held at the Illinois State Museum—Dickson Mounds. A symposium on current research is scheduled for Saturday morning (8:00 a.m. until Noon). Presentations will be limited to 10-minutes to accommodate as many as possible to span the considerable scope and breadth of archaeology in Illinois. We encourage members to submit a presentation title and abstract by August 1, 2011. Saturday afternoon session (1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.) will be dedicated to a series of invited papers on the Mississippian/Late Mississippian Period in the central Illinois River valley and a keynote address that considers the subject with a perspective of greater geographic scope. Both sessions will be open to the public for the purpose of building a broader constituency for Illinois archaeology at a time when advocacy is especially important. We will develop and distribute additional particulars before long, but for now we encourage IAS members to make plans to join us and please consider the opportunity to share your research.
