Dickson Mounds Museum Open House

The Dickson Mounds Museum will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, August 21, 2011, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. followed by a special lecture by Director Dr. Michael Wiant. Spend the afternoon on the “inside” of Dickson Mounds. Speak with archaeologists and learn about the history of the museum and past projects. Gain a better understanding of recent excavations and their findings. See the latest additions to the exhibit galleries and experience the new Emiquon exhibit in the River Valley Gallery. Learn about the Museum’s future plans. Sample a variety of educational programs and crafts. Receive a “behind-the-scenes” tour of the Museum’s collections storage area. Discover what other projects are planned at the museum. Museum staff will be stationed throughout the building to ensure each visitor’s enjoyable experience. Cookies, punch and ice cream will be available in the museum’s snack bar.
Visitors of all ages are welcomed. Admission is free.
The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day. Tours and special programs are available for groups with reservations.
