- Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
- Date: Tuesday, July 05, 2011, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
On Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Gregory D. Wilson, Associate Professor of Anthropology at University of California, Santa Barbara, will present Crafting Complexity: Comparing Mississippian Stone Axe Industries in the Central Illinois River Valley and American Bottom Regions. The presentation is at 7:00 p.m. at Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown, Illinois as part of the monthly meeting of the Illinois Valley Archaeological Society, which is open to the public. Forthcoming evidence is revealing important differences in the way Mississippian groups manufactured and used ground stone axes (wood working tools known as celts) in the American Bottom and Central Illinois River Valley. This evidence holds the potential to broaden our understanding of the political and economic differences between these two regions. IVAS programs are free of charge and the public is welcome.
