Hickory Ridge Concert Series: Bucky Halker returns to Hickory Ridge
- Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
- Date: Saturday, November 20, 2010, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Songwriter and guitarist Bucky Halker will return to the Hickory Ridge Concert Series to perform songs of Woody Guthrie and the dustbowl era Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Bucky's performance is in association with the Smithsonian Institution's traveling exhibition on Roots music, New Harmonies which is currently on exhibit at the Western Illinois Museum, 201 South Lafayette St., Macomb, IL. A veteran performer, Halker has extensive recording and touring credits, including numerous CDs, and European tours most recently performing in Germany with Arlo Guthrie.
A native of Ashland, Wisconsin currently residing in Chicago, Halker's songs draw extensively on his experiences on the road, his Midwest populist roots, and his strong interest in American history. He is a recognized master of the music of Woody Guthrie while elements of country, folk, blues, and rock all make their way into his original songs, drawing comparisons to Steve Earle and John Mellencamp. The Chicago Tribune called Halker "one of Chicago's most interesting songwriters" and folk-music magazine Dirty Linen described him as "incredibly appealing" and "a great singer." Bucky's appearance is supported by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council. He will be joined onstage by Hickory Ridge host and multi instrumentalist, Chris Vallillo. The museum Gift Shop will also be open before the performance for early Holiday Shopping.
