Hickory Ridge Concert Series: Chris Vallillo Takes the Stage

Singer-Songwriter Chris Vallillo will take the stage as the featured performer at the Hickory Ridge Concert Series Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Normally the host of the series, Vallillo is energetic and entertaining performer best known for his roots based guitar and slide guitar work which combines original material with a wide range of old time country and folk songs he collected in Western Illinois over the past 30 years. Chris is a nationally acclaimed folksinger and songwriter who performs on six string and bottleneck slide guitars, jew's-harp and hammer dulcimer. He weaves original, contemporary and traditional folk songs and narratives into a compelling and entertaining portrait of the history and lifestyle of the Midwest gained from his extensive years of experience . In the 1980’s he was involved interviewing the last of the pre-radio era musicians in rural Illinois. From 1990-1997 he was host and co-producer of the award winning nationally syndicated performance radio show Rural Route 3. His latest recording Abraham Lincoln in Song reached #10 on Billboard Magazine’s Bluegrass Album Charts in 2008. Rick Kogan of WGN radio called it “An astonishing piece of work… enlightening, exciting and entertaining!” Vallillo will be joined by stand up bass player Ben Willis and will be performing music from all four of his currently available CDs.
