Illinois Valley Archaeological Society Lecture Series: The Archaeology of Emiquon

Illinois Valley Archaeological Society Lecture Series: The Archaeology of Emiquon

  • Location: ISM Dickson Mounds Museum, Lewistown
  • Date: Tuesday, May 05, 2009, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

On Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Dickson Mounds auditorium, Alan Harn, Associate Curator of Anthropology, Dickson Mounds Museum, will present a slide-illustrated lecture titled: The Archaeology of Emiquon. In 2003, Dickson Mounds Museum and the Nature Conservancy began a comprehensive archaeological investigation of the newly developing Emiquon preserve. Nearly 70 new archaeological sites were found within the refuge over the next several years, and excavations and soil coring into the bottomland sediments provided researchers with new insights into paleo-climates, bottomland geomorphology, and their relationships to past human civilizations at the site.

IVAS programs are free of charge and the public is welcome. For more information call 309-547-3721.
