Tachopteryx thoreyi (Gray Petaltail
Total length = 75mm male
The gray petaltail is the only gray and black species in our area. They grow up to three inches long. They have widely spaced eyes and a slender abdomen.
This species prefers damp, forested hillsides. They eat large insects such as butterflies and beetles. They are rather rare.
