Villosa iris (Rainbow)
The rainbow mussel shell is small (to three inches in length), and thin, with rounded ends. The surface is yellow or greenish yellow, with dark green rays. The species lives in coarse sand or gravel in small to medium streams. It has occurred from the Illinois River valley eastward in Illinois.
