Pleurobema clava (Clubshell)
The clubshell mussel shell is triangular and thick. Its smooth surface is yellowish brown with broken green rays in the umbo area. It grows to three inches in length. This species lives in the gravel or mixed gravel and sand of medium to large rivers. It has occurred along the Wabash river system in eastern Illinois.
