Danaus gilippus(Queen)

Queen butterflies have dark brown wings with black margins and white spots. The males have a black spot on each hindwing. They mimic the Monarch.

Queen butterflies live in the southwestern states and along the Gulf and eastern coasts. The specimen below is a southwestern male. This species flies in the open visiting flowers such as milkweed, ageratum, and eupatorium.
