Quercus palustris (Pin Oak)
Pin oak grows from 50 to 90 feet in poorly drained wet sites, such as level uplands. It ranges from eastern Kansas and Oklahoma east thoughout Illinois to Vermont, south to central North Carolina then westward.
The shiny dark green leaves are two to four inches wide and three to five inches long. They have deep lobes with broad sinuses and bristle-tipped points. The small (1/2") round acorns are enclosed by a thin flattish cup
