ISM Herbarium : Prairie Herbs : Violet (Violaceae)
Viola pedatifida (Prairie Violet)
Prairie Violet is found in fertile soils of high-quality prairies. It grows four to eight inches tall. Flowers, which consist of two upper petals and three bearded lower petals, can be blue, violet, or pinkish. They bloom in the spring and also sometimes in the fall. The leaves are stalked and basal, and divided into segments, creating the look of a bird's foot.
