Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem)
Little Bluestem is a major grass in the tallgrass prairie, growing in very dry to moist areas. It grows to four feet tall, with long (12"), narrow (1/4" leaves. Flowers are on vertical stalks and their long delicate hairs form a feathery cluster. It blooms from midsummer to fall, when stems turn bronze.
