ISM Herbarium : Prairie Herbs : Aster (Asteraceae)

Parthenium integrifolium (Wild Quinine)
Wild Quinine grows in dry to mesic prairies and upland savannas. It grows to a height of three to five feet. Most of the plant is covered with short, bristly hairs. The basal leaves are stalked, while the smaller, alternate stem leaves clasp the stem. Flowers appear from late spring through summer at the top of the branched stems in flat clusters. Each small flower head consists of disk flowers ringed by five tiny, white ray flowers.
