Panicum virgatum (Switch Grass)
This specimen of Switch Grass shows the plant grows up to six feet tall, although it averages about three feet. The leaves can grow up to 18 inches long and are about 3/4 inch wide. The tiny budlike flowers appear on the widely spreading branched tops of stems. The plant grows in mesic to wet prairies. It blooms from summer to early fall.
