Leptoloma cognatum (Fall Witch Grass)
Fall Witch Grass grows on dry and sandy prairies. It stands one to two and a half feet tall. Leaves are narrow, straight, and up to five inches long. At the top of the stems, a pannicle branches out and has a single fuzzy seed at the tip of each branch. This pannicle is brittle and offten becomes a tumbleweed. it flowers in the autumn.
