Helianthus pauciflorus (Stiff Sunflower)
Stiff Sunflower is widespread in dry prairies. The name refers to its few leaves, which are thick, long, and pointed. Blooming season is from midsummer to fall. One or a few flower heads top each stem. Each consists of a dark reddish disk surrounded by 10-23 yellow ray flowers.
