Gaura biennis (Biennial Gaura)
Biennial Gaura grows in dry, rocky and disturbed areas mostly east of the Mississippi River. This specimen shows the top part of a stem with its alternate branches of flowers. Each flower is about an inch long. It consists of a spike with four reddish sepals, a tubular base, four pink petals, eight stamens, and a narrow four-lobed style. The plant blooms from late spring to fall.
The specimen also shows a stem section of leaves. Biennial Gaura has hairy stems and leaves. Each leaf is about 5 by 1 1/2 inches.
