Dalea purpurea (Purple Prairie Clover)
Purple Prairie Clover grows in dry to mesic prairies. The plant is about two feet tall. This specimen shows a strong root system.
The leaves are alternate compound, made up of three to nine leaflets measuring 1/8 inch wide and less than an inch long. The flower spikes bloom from bottom to top in rows of dark magenta flowers about 1/4 inch long. Each flower has four small petals, one larger petal, and five stamens. They bloom from late spring through summer.
