Joseph Vavak was born in Vienna, Austria and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He received his art training at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Art Students League in New York. He became a member of the Chicago Society of Artists and the Artist's Union. He created murals and prints for the Illinois WPA graphics program.
This pale lithograph depicts a family begging for assistance during the Depression.
