Man's Dream
Harry Sternberg (1904 - 2002)

etching and aquatint on paper, 1938
8 x 15 inches

Harry Sternberg, a native of New York City, worked for the graphics program of the New York WPA, but also painted murals in post offices in Chicago and in towns of Pennsylvania. He taught painting and graphics at the Art Students League for more than 30 years. He also taught at the Idylwild School of Music and Art at the University of Southern California.

In the aquatint process, the artist makes his image by applying resin to the plate and dips it in acid. The print process results in tones and textures. The etching process results in fine lines when printed. Man's Dream is a combination of both techniques.
