Autumn in Illinois Frances Badger (1904 - 1997)

This painting is a study for a mural for the Audy Juvenile Home in Chicago, which Badger painted as part of the Illinois WPA Murals project. The WPA theme of this mural is "The American Scene." There is a companion piece titled Spring in Illinois.
Tempera medium is a mixture of powdered pigments in a binder such as glue or egg yolk and water. The artist paints it onto a gesso-covered board or paper.
