Cornelian Stone Beads
These reddish-brown, mottled beads are cut from an agate stone called cornelian. This type of bead was probably traded to African peoples by the Stephen A. Frost & Son. The round beads at the top of the card are called yolk beads, in imitation of the amber beads of North Africa that were used as hair and lip ornaments.Collection of the Illinois State Museum
