Resources on Lewis and Clark in the Illinois Country

This Web site offers a bibliography of sources used to create the narrative on Lewis and Clark in the Illinois Country. The bibliography includes books, articles, and web pages.

There are also lesson plans for teachers and parents to use to reinforce or enrich the historical content. There is a text section on Mapping Traditions, and an activity on European and Native American mapping traditions.

There is a Photo Gallery of images of specimens and artifacts from the collections of the Illinois State Museum. There are herbarium sheets of many of the plants mentioned by Lewis in his journal while in Illinois and animal mounts of Illinois examples of many animals that Lewis and Clark saw and hunted near their camp. The Museum also houses the Fort Massac Archaeological Collection, from which a few artifacts have been selected.
