McQueen's narrative figuration is in keeping with his consistent challenge to our expectations of basketry and fiber-based art. Created for the Lockport Gallery and From Limb to Limb, it includes several self-portraits, portraits of individuals close to McQueen, and a truck "photographed at random on the Interstate." The first of its type, Occurrence may indicate yet another direction the artist is bent on exploring and making his own.
