Students studied the properties of a common wetland plant, the cattail, and recreated a popular use of this plant by the Native Americans by making their own cattail mats.

- Studying Cattail (Ward) - - Studying Cattail (Sugar Creek) - - Cattail Mat (Rock Falls) -
A Ward Middle School student studies the cattail.

Students at Sugar Creek Elementary School investigate the rhizome of the cattail.

Rock Falls Elementary students make a cattail mat duplicating the method used by Native Americans of this area.

- Transect Study (Washington) - These Washington School students prepare for fieldwork by setting a transect in their schoolyard to learn about the plants growing there.

- Aquatic Plants (Lewistown) - Students at Lewistown Central Grade School used these assorted aquatic plants grown in their classroom for stomate study.

Learning About Land Formations and Wetlands Hydrology

- Water Model (Athens) - Students at Athens Middle School experiment with this groundwater model.
