Illinois State Museum Kicks Off 3rd Year of Story Time Programs
 A group of three to five year olds are gathered on a brightly-colored rug. They listen to picture books, sing songs composed and performed by singer-songwriter Amy Benton, play games, and take a closer look at objects rarely seen by the public. This has been the scene at the Illinois State Museum on the second Monday of each month for the last two years. The Museum is excited to continue Story Time at the Illinois State Museum in 2015, and will kick off the year with some great, new themes.

January 12 | A Mammoth Story Time
Winters can be cold in Illinois, but what was it like when glaciers covered the state? On January 12, visitors will imagine what it was like when Woolly Mammoths lived in Illinois. The books will include Mammoths on the Move by Lisa Wheeler and How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth by Michelle Robinson. Children will get to touch a real Mammoth tooth and will receive a Mammoth craft to do at home.
February 9 | Catch the Beat
In recognition of Black History Month, the February 9 program will feature jazz musician Mark McKnight reading Charlie Parker Played Be Bop by Christopher Raschka. McKnight will introduce children to various instruments and their sounds. Children will “catch the beat” while playing percussion instruments.
March 9 | Wonderful You!
Everyone has special talents that they can use to better the world. In celebration of Women’s History Month, the March 9 program will focus on women who did amazing things just by being themselves.
Story Time is a 30-40 minute program designed for preschool children ages 3-5 and their caregivers. On the second Monday of each month, visitors enjoy picture books, songs, and objects from the Museum’s collections.
