Brownbag Lectures: Edwards Trace at 200: Old Tales and New Discoveries

Presented by David Brady, Illinois Historian

The first part of this presentation will outline the history associated with Edwards during the War of 1812 and going back further in its history to Native American, European, and Anglo-American and the possibility of prehistoric use and the geography of Illinois in which created it.

The second part will be an interactive online web-site using the Esri, ArcGis software program. Mr. Brady will show an overlay of Edwards Route of 1812, the 1816 Stephen H. Long survey and the 1819 Jacob Judy Map and the Ft. Clark Road and geographic and historical sites within its corridor. With the use of new and old technology LIDAR/TIN imagining, GPS, USDA photographs, historic plats and Government Land Office Maps, topography maps David can show extant sections of the trace and historic sites within its corridor.

One of our Brownbag Lectures

Weekly lectures held at the Museum's Research and Collections Center. Lectures are usually held during lunchtime on Wednesday. The RCC is located at 1011 E. Ash Street in Springfield. Access to the building is from 10 ½ Steet (between Ash and Laurel Streets), where there is ample visitor parking in the west parking lot. For more information, please call 217-785-0037.
