Bugs! Family Event

  • Location: Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Springfield
  • Date: Saturday, July 18, 2015, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Creepy, crawly, prickly, and gooey… Discover a world unseen at “Bugs!”— an Illinois State Museum Free Family Event. Visitors can engage their senses (not taste!) while experiencing live insects up close, as well as explore and learn about the Museum’s extensive entomology collection. The event will kick-off with a live butterfly release at 11AM (second release at 1PM), followed by exciting activities including: seeing live caterpillars, bees, and other insects; fun face painting; making bug art and bug collages; learning to “waggle dance” like a bee, and more! The Museum’s youngest visitors will find a fun, sensory learning area with activities created just for toddlers and preschoolers.

Don’t miss your opportunity to meet and interact with local insect experts and Museum scientists! Learn how insects are caught for research, discover beekeeping, see a real honey hive, and meet Museum scientists who study and preserve native and exotic insects. We’re all abuzz! You won’t want to miss this fantastic family experience.

This program is generously sponsored by Bank of Springfield.
