Brownbag Lectures: Virtual Illinois: A Roadside Guide to the Prairie State
- Location: ISM Research & Collections Center, Springfield
- Date: Wednesday, April 03, 2013, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Presented by Chris Widga, Ph.D., Assistant Curator of Geology, Illinois State Museum
How do you effectively communicate history to the public? Is it better to visualize history as a myriad of varied threads, or is synthesis possible (or even desirable)? Being linked to local places, community histories are--in many ways--inherently geographic. The Virtual Illinois project is leveraging this geographic focus to develop new web and mobile mapping applications to communicate the natural and cultural history of Illinois.
