Life as a Student in a One Room School

What was it like to attend a one-room school? As part of the Spoon River Reads project, Dickson Mounds Museum and the Fulton County Arts Council present Life as a Student in a One Room School on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Visitors will learn about the history of one room schools in Fulton County. Participants may come dressed in 19th century or early 20th century garb and enjoy a hands-on craft projects. Both the East and West Waterford schools on the Museum Grounds will be open to the public to view the exhibits between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., with ongoing children’s activities held only in the East Waterford School. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. This program is a collaborative effort between Dickson Mounds Museum, the Fulton County Arts Council, and the Spoon River Reads project. The Fulton County Arts Council is partially funded by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
