Banded Argiope (Argiope trifasciata)
Description: Carapace (shell covering back) is yellow with silver hairs. Abdomen is rounded, tapering toward the end and smooth, with alternating bands of black, yellow, and silver. Legs are orange yellow to brown with dark spots. Overall size is about 1 inch (25mm) for females and about ¼-inch (4-6mm) for males. Female creates an orb web in which to catch insects. The egg sac containing about 100 eggs is suspended at the top of a nearby weed or grass stem.

Habitat: Open fields with high grass across the United States, and in temperate and tropical areas of the world.
