Genus Villosa

Villosa lienosa (Little Spectaclecase)
The little spectaclecase mussell shell is small (to 2.5 inches in length), and elongate, with a rounded anterior end and a pointed posterior end. The surface is green to dark brown, sometimes with green rays. This species lives in the sand or gravel of small to medium streams. In Illinois it occurs in the Wabash River and its tributaries.
Conservation status: endangered in Illinois
Taxonomy: Order Unionoida; Superfamily Unionoidea; Family Unionidaw; Subfamily Lampsilinae
