Genus Toxolasma

Class Bivalvia : Subclass Paleoheterodonta : Genus Toxolasma

Toxolasma parvus (Lilliput)
The lilliput mussel is named for its tiny size of up to one and one half inches in length. The shell is elliptical, with inflated umbos. The dark green or brown surface is textureed like cloth. This species lives in the mud, sand, or fine gravel of ponds, lakes, and creeks to large rivers. It occurs throughout Illinois.
Conservation status: widespread and abundant locally
Taxonomy: Order Unionoida; Superfamily Unionoidea; Family Unionidae; Subfamily Lampsilinae
