Quadrula cylindrica (Rabbitsfoot)
The rabbitsfoot mussel shell is rectangular, thick, and compressed, with low umbos. It grows to five inches in length. The surface is rough, with tubercles on the anterior end and pustules (knobs) on the posterior ridge. The surface color is green to light brown with yellow chevron markings. This species lives in the mixed sand and gravel of medium to large rivers. It has occurred along the Wabash and Ohio Rivers in Illinois.
Conservation status: endangered in Illinois
