Alasmidonta viridis (Slippershell)
The slippershell mussel shell is small (about an inch in length) and moderately inflated. It is rounded in shape on the anterior end and squared on the posterior. There are usually three to four ridges in the beak sculpture. The color is yellowish green with wavy green rays.
The slippershell lives in the mud, sand, or fine gravel of creeks and the headwaters of large rivers.
Conservation status: threatened in Illinois
Taxonomy: Order, Unionoida; Superfamily Unionoidea; Family Unionidae; Subfamily Anodontinae
